City of Rolfe Council Meeting
Monday, June 11, 2012,
Community Center, 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Hayek called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. Council Present Joni Ham, Joe Ramaekers, Lana Pratt and David Thoren. D. Thoren/Ramaekers moved to approve the consent agenda including bills, 5/14/12 & 5/29/12 minutes, building permits for Ken Bennett, Dennis Trenary, Kim Servoss & Daddy T’s. All ayes. Carried.
Ham/D. Thoren moved to approve the treasurer’s report.
Mayor Commented that state is going paperless – E’Filing tickets is mandated by state.
Police Report – busy month.
Council comments – Ramaekers suggested moving recycling center to empty lots across the street. Thoren building permit process.
Complaint on cats and dogs. Police officer has spoken with residents to resolve issues. One on children out after curfew, no action taken, could not identify.
Land Maintenance Agreement - drainage issue that needs to be addressed.
Nick Graham answered questions from council. Ramaekers/Pratt moved to approve the liquor license to sell hard liquor at Rolfe Area Market. Ayes: Pratt, Ham, Ramaekers. Nays: D. Thoren. Carried.
Ham/Ramaekers moved to approve cigarette permit for Rolfe Area Market. All Ayes. Carried.
D. Thoren/Ham moved to regretfully accept the resignation letter of council member John Thoren. All ayes. Clerk stated that council has 40 days to fill the vacancy for the remainder of this year. To fill the rest of the 3 year term vacancy persons interested will need to take out papers to be on the November ballot.
Ham/D. Thoren moved to approve City Treasurer De Sindergard to sign checks in the absence of City Clerk. All ayes. Carried.
Mayor read resolution #550. Ramaekers/Thoren moved to approve Resolution #550 closing Des Moines Avenue from Broad Street to Oak Street Friday June 29th for Tractor Ride. All ayes. Carried.
Mayor opened bids for GMC Truck from Mark Burres in the amount $525.00 and Josh Vigdal in the amount of $200.00. Ham/Thoren moved to accept the bid from Mark Burres in the amount of $525.00. All ayes. Carried.
Ham/Ramaekers moved to remove the assessment on 505 Lincoln Street of mowing. All ayes. Carried.
Council member Ham read Ordinance #198 amending the The Code of Ordinances of the City of Rolfe, Iowa, Chapter 90 Water Service System, By Adding a New Section 90.19 Titled Location of potential Sources of Contamination within close proximity to public water wells in the City of Rolfe, Iowa. D. Thoren/Ramaekers moved to approve the first reading of Ordinance # 198. Ayes: Pratt, Ham, Ramaekers and D. Thoren. Carried. Ham/D. Thoren moved to waive the second and third reading of ordinance #198. Ayes: Pratt, Ham, Ramaekers and D. Thoren. Carried. D. Thoren/Ramaekers moved to adopt Ordinance #198. Ayes. Pratt, Ham, Ramaekers and d. Thoren. Carried.
Mayor read resolution #551. Pratt/D. Thoren moved to approve resolution #551 to transfer funds from the emergency, local option sales tax, gas and water account to the general account and transfer funds from local option to economic development and debt service. All ayes. Carried.
D. Thoren/Ham moved to adjourn at 7:35pm. All ayes. Carried.
