...A familiar face in numerous westerns, Hank Worden’s film and television work ran from the 1930s until the early 1990s. Born Norton Earl Worden in Rolfe, Iowa, he attended Stanford University and the University of Nevada where he studied engineering. Worden worked as a rodeo bronco rider, and it was while he and Tex Ritter were performing in a rodeo at New York’s Madison Square Garden that they were both selected to appear on Broadway in 1930 in Green Grow the Lilacs. His films included such classics as Red River, Fort Apache, Duel in the Sun, and The Searchers. His final screen appearance came in 1991 on the television series Twin Peaks as "The Elderly and Senile Room Service Waiter.” ...

...Brief mention of a bicycle shop in Rolfe, as follows, "Moore was well known in central Iowa as a bicycle racer from Des Moines, racing in most major competitions locally in the 1890's. He briefly had a bicycle store up at Rolfe, Iowa with a partner named Glen Tidrick, and it was in the rear of Rich's Hardware Store. It was called Moore & Tidrick, and existed briefly in 1896."...

The collection contains the reminiscences of Gladys Trimble Leith entitled, "Stories Told by Gladys, 1989" and "Memories of Mom," by Marie Jeffers. The sketches contain the sisters' recollections about their mother Mary Pyle Trimble as well as their own childhood experiences. They also recount intimate details of growing up female on a northwestern Iowa farm-farm chores, health and illness, marriage, childbirth and other humorous incidents. The collection consists of 432 color slides and descriptions of the slide contents documenting the 1956-1959 school years at the Rolfe, Iowa, Community School. Events documented include: the Junior Class Play, the Grand Operetta, the Senior Trip, Spring Band Concert, Senior Class Play, Senior Breakfast, sports, and Homecoming celebrations. The history of the Rolfe, Iowa schools dates back to 1860 when Rolfe (at its former location three miles northeast of town) hired the first teacher in the county with classes held at the log house of William M. Hait. The Independent School District of Rolfe was established at the current town location in 1884. Students met in a two-story building made of lumber from the courthouse at Old Rolfe - the original site of the Pocahontas County seat. ...
