Rolfe Regular Council Meeting/Public Hearing

Monday, May 12, 2014

Rolfe Community Center, 6:30pm

 

Mayor Julie Lancaster called the meeting to order at6:30pm. Council present Carl Struve, Dan Allen, Al Kuchenreuther, Joe Ramaekers and Tom Andersen.  Ramaekers/Kuchenreuther moved to approve the consent agenda including agenda, minutes and bills and building permit for Cole Douglas.

Kuchenreuther/Struve moved to approve treasurer’s report.  All ayes. Carried.

Mayor thanked the Lions Club and Pocahontas County Sherif’s department for hosting a bicycle safety class.  Mayor discussed with council about franchise renewal with Alliant, will be placed on next meeting agenda.

Ramaekers had concerns with storm tile around circle drive, the issue is being resolved.

Citizen comments – David Larton discussed with council about an RC car track and location.  Council will research for next meeting.  Larry Nye had questions about letter about junk; Mayor will meet with the next day to discuss.

Rich Welter from Mosquito Control of Iowa handed out mosquito control quote.  Questions and discussion on pricing.   Allen/Struve moved to hire Mosquito Control for 2014 season for the amount of $3000.00. Ayes: Kuchenreuther, Struve, Allen and Andersen.  Nays: Ramaekers.  Carried.

Fire Board hasn’t met for heater at water salesman take off agenda. Time clock will be taken off agenda until more information is collected.

Glenn Markley from the Hometown Pride Committee met with Jeff Jenson a state forester about tree planting in some areas around town.  Also discussed putting some tile pots on the vacant lot across from City Hall.  Kuchenreuther/Allen moved to approve planting trees at Wilcox Shelter, Golf Course, RAMS Event Center and by Rolfe Sign south end of town. All ayes. Carried.  Council discussed no pots to be placed on empty lot at this time.

Mayor called to open the public hearing on the FY 2013/2014 Budget amendment at 7:00pm. Mayor asked if anyone has any comments for/against amendment, Mayor asked if there is any written correspondence for/against amendment.  No comments or written correspondence.  Mayor closed the public hearing at 7:05pm

Kuchenreuther/Ramaekers moved to approve Resolution #580 amending the Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Budget.  Ayes: Struve, Allen, Kuchenreuther, Ramaekers and Andersen.  Carried.

Andersen/Struve moved to approve emergency pipe repair contract in the amount of $16,780.00 on the water tower.  All ayes. Carried.

Kuchenreuther /Ramaekers moved to purchase a new locater for the Utility Department.  All ayes. Carried.

Property/Vehicle Nuisances – Mayor has sent out courtesy letters, discussed code enforcement.  Mayor will discuss with neighboring town’s police department if they could do code enforcement.

Allen/Ramaekers moved to adjourn at 7:25pm.  All ayes. Carried.
